Day Two: We're in Amarillo!

Grandpa Jones and I were back on the road again just before 8:00 this morning, hoping to drive all day and actually make it as far as Tucumcari, New Mexico. But we didn't make as good time as we had hoped.
We did at least get to drive through the beautiful fog-covered Ozarks for about an hour before the rain started ... it continued to rain all throughout our morning drive.
This is a picture of GARMIN. We're getting used to hearing it say, "Recalculating" everytime we exit off the highway or take a turn it didn't like! In spite of the rain, the morning was pleasant enough. We passed through places like Sleeper, Missouri where there was actually a church called, "Sleeper United Methodist Church" which would be a challenging church to pastor! And not far from there was The Rocking Chair Restaurant, which boasts "breakfast ... anytime!" We listened to the second disc of our book on CD and then ate lunch on the tollroad in Oklahoma, somewhere near Tulsa. The rain finally stopped and we were to Oklahoma City by 3:00 in the afternoon. I didn't take many photos today and regret it. I wanted to catch a picture of the red clay/dirt, but I just never did! It's actually brick red in places! We ran into a rather lengthy road delay, which really slowed our progress. We listened to more of our novel as we drove, and then decided to settle in at Amarillo for the night instead of going any further.
Somewhere in the afternoon, we noticed that the computer inside the car said that the outside air temperature was 101 degrees ... I think we were just getting into the panhandle of Texas at the time. Shortly after that, we did stop at a rest area and it felt ... HOT! We spotted this train soon before checking into our hotel tonight. We're tired, but excited to reach El Paso tomorrow and see those beautiful faces we haven't seen for so long. I'll keep in touch.

Sounds like your trip has been
interesting and really good. The
books on tape is a really good idea
for long trips. I like seeing the
scenery and your descriptions as I've
never seen it before. Love and hugs
to all the kids and kiddos. God Bless.
