Saturday: As predicted, it was raining BUCKETS most of the day--but only on and off between the hours of 2:00 - 5:00. Most of our guests who were coming and going did not get totally soaked getting in and out of their cars. Jesse was on hand with a nice umbrella to help people out as well.
Chris, "Topher", had to work from 2:00 until 10:00 (I think) and we had received word from him that he would TRY to stop by but he wasn't sure. But about 20 minutes shy of 2:00, a car came barrelling up the driveway at about 65mph ... it was Chris! He could only stay a fraction of a minute--he didn't want to be late to work--but it was SO NICE to have him "show up" even for this little bit of time.Chris did grab a bit of fruit and fruit dip to take to work with him ...
... and then he backed OUT of the driveway going ... FAST! Yikes. I'm terrible in reverse (!).
It was approaching 2:00 and we were totally ready for guests to arrive.
This was the wall Emma decorated to use for photos with friends ...
We put her photo boards on the 6' table Jesse purchased for the occasion ... (thank you, Jesse).
Our first guests arrived concurrently: Grandma and Grandpa Hand, and Kayla & Isaac.
Jesse was busy stirring his pot of chicken brocolli pasta in the crock pot (yum)...
This is the frame Emma ordered for her diploma--I think it turned out very nice.
Uncle Dylan, Aunt Kelly and the cousins arrived ... look at happy little Callaghan!
Krista and Emma ...
Hanging out in the kitchen ...
Callaghan looks a LOT like Dylan when Dylan was this age.
Krista, Emma and Kaylie ...
Some of the spread ... we kept it simple. We served Emma's favorite selection of chips (individual bags), two-bite cupcakes (from GFS), homemade brownies (a la' moi), tons of watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and grapes with my famous two-ingredient fruit dip, bottled water and other simple snacks.
Here is the huddle around Emma's picture boards ...
Jesse's house was a nice place to gather together.
Everyone enjoying the "eats."
Emma's friends were interested in looking through ALL of the yearbooks ... as far back as middle school.
And TWO of our very favorite people in the entire world ... Nigel and Angela! We love these guys so much. They stayed for more than an hour and took such interest in Emma's pictures. They are such kindred spirits.
A few more pictures at the photo wall ...
Emma's party came to an end at about 5:30. Our guests left and Emma and Kaity hopped in Emma's car to go and quickly visit another friend's grad party. But thankfully, Emma could not find the correct house and had to return home. I am SO GLAD she couldn't find Trent's house! Look who came after his shift at work! Yay, Matthew! Aren't these nice pictures of them?
And Diana came in for a little visit too. I'm so thankful for the time we spent with her--it was very special.
God--You are awesome! In so many ways, You made today a great day for Emma. You answered every prayer of my heart and went beyond (You always do!). Thank YOU so much.
