This little blossom is the beginning of a ... strawberry ... how amazing is that?!
We got right down to business and picked our strawberries first thing ... I think we spent perhaps 25 minutes down our row and picked 10 pounds of RED, ripe, juicy, YUMMY strawberries!
The little kids helped pick the berries and enjoyed the first 10 minutes of our effort ... and put up with the rest of it until we filled our tray. We decided to walk from the strawberry patch down and across the field to the little petting zoo.
It was a fabulous day to be outdoors ... absolutely perfect weather ...
Wouldn't you LOVE to live here?! Really. This is one of my very favorite places on earth ... I can even forgive it for being an hour away from Lake Michigan!
We fed the animals ... look at this sweet little goat!
Even Grandpa Jones enjoyed himself here I think ... and there wasn't ONE single train!
Last year when we were here with the Pahman grandchildren (and my heart ached with missing them today), there was a bully pig that took all of the food away from the other pig ... well, the same was true today! Different pigs, but the same exact situation! Olivia kept trying to get SOME food to the runt pig ...
And here are our three strawberry kiddos outside the Ice Cream shop ... I was going to photoshop the #10 in that blank place on the picture ... I still can, but NOT tonight ...
Mmmm ... the kids got chocolate ice cream with sprinkles! Our morning really went by too quickly ... they practically had to drag me kicking and screaming to the car to get me to leave ... but we were expecting company for lunch and had to get home in time to greet them and prepare for 10 folk around our small table!
Dylan and Kelly, along with Emily, joined us for lunch. We hauled out everything from both refrigerators, added some stuff to it ... and called it "good!" Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was fun to get better acquainted with Kelly, as well as to see Emily again.
Since we had never seen the explosion a person can make when combining a roll of Mentos with Diet Coke, Sabrina decided this was a MUST SEE for all of us and volunteered to demonstrate it for us!
Pretty impressive! The little kids (and me!) were very entertained by the result.
After nap time, Karis and I (and Olivia too) made sticker pictures ... Karis got a few stuck on her feet, but no matter ~ she had a lot of fun!
We made super huge soft tacos for dinner ... not that any of us really needed to eat one more thing today. We cleaned the 10# of strawberries, picked up a frosted angel food cake at Meijer's, and topped it off with creamy whipped cream for an afternoon treat! So much for strawberries being healthy!
What we had really been looking forward to ALL day, though, was our invitation to go out to Hudsonville to see Thom's (Grandpa Jones's very good buddy) train layout ...
These pictures need NO comment ... everyone's faces reflect the fun we had tonight. It is really hours past when I should have gone to bed and my brain is ... finished! We are looking forward to an all-day beach day tomorrow so I am going to catch some rest and perhaps post pictures from Lake Michigan tomorrow night!
