Totally terrific Tuesday ...

We had hoped for good weather today ... because we really really wanted to have a beach day for the entire day. We ended up having a completely gorgeous day at my practically favorite place on planet Earth ~ Grand Haven. We went to the North Shore Beach to play in the sand, on the playground, and eat our snacks. The water was pretty cold, so we didn't actually go swimming ~ although the little ones got up to their knees in it and enjoyed themselves hugely with the whole thing.
I'm going to just show you a couple of highlights, because Grandpa Jones and I took a combined total of over 240 pictures today and I just can hardly look at all of them tonight!
Olivia and I took a really long walk late in the morning. We wanted to get a look at the fronts of the beautiful beachfront homes along North Shore Drive ... plus, I told her we could walk all the way to the north pier and have a nice view of the lighthouse that way. We walked and walked and walked ... without reaching the end of that road and the lighthouse! We finally gave up, cut down to the beach, and returned to our beach site. But Livie kindly posed on this huge tree trunk out in the water ... see the lighthouse behind her?
We took a break from the beach and drove around and looked at all of the nice shops in downtown Grand Haven, where we also had dinner.
And then we, naturally, walked the entire boardwalk down to the lighthouse!
The little kiddos got in a lot of walking today ... they are exhausted! Isn't this a darling picture of them?
Once we reached the end of the pier, we sat down and enjoyed the fishermen for awhile ...

Notice this guy's shirt. It says: "LOST CAUSE: We find the holes, you break the poles. Losing fish since 1938." Anyway, this guy was helping fellas set up their fishing poles, showing them how to cast their nets, and I guess running a business doing that! What a fun job!

Little minnows were being caught in the nets, which were then being used as bait for bigger fish.
Since this was a week night, it wasn't too terribly crowded on the pier!
As an added bonus, we were in the right place at the right time to see this freighter backing its way out of the channel ... what a sight! We watched it for a long time and then walked back up the boardwalk to get our ... ice cream!

Ah, a dreamy last picture ... if I could, I would spend my whole life right at this exact spot! How blessed we were to have such a great day to share with our dear family!
