Wednesday, May 20: We arrived a tiny bit before 10AM to the Ponce Inlet Light. This is the tallest light in Florida AND the second tallest in the continental United States. It's very pretty and I couldn't WAIT to climb to the top!
This is the building that houses the gift shop and admission to the lighthouse and out buildings. It was a perfectly clear morning, with a brisk wind ...
I took an excessive amount of pictures (naturally) ...
We began our ascent to the top. There are 203 steps, with landings every 22 steps so that people can catch their breath. The pictures (above) with all of the interesting information were taken at different intervals and at separate landings as we made the climb ...
Isn't this a gorgeous window?
One of the landings ...
My dear brother!
The shadow of the lighthouse!
The spectacular views from the tippy top!
There were 30 mph sustained winds up at the top ... they told us to hold on to our hats and glasses!
WOW, huh? We stayed up on top for a little while--but we were COLD! We started our descent. I actually think climbing down was a little bit more unnerving than climbing up.
Isn't that a great view DOWN?
We did not have ALL day to be here, but we did go into a few of the outbuildings ...
The grounds are beautiful ...
Some distance shots ...
What a beautiful place this is! I'm so grateful to David for taking me here! You see, we could have just driven from Miami up the correct side of the state and arrived back at David's house in a little over four hours! But instead, David went completely OUT OF HIS WAY, four hours in the opposite direction, to take me to see this beautiful lighthouse. This act of kindness goes way beyond my highest expectation! I have the BEST brother ever.
