October 10 For Kaity

Friday morning:  When I was over at Jesse's last evening (with the purpose of saying "Hi" to both of them), Kaity asked if I could "do her hair" for homecoming the next day.

Kaity used to come over to my house twice each week for a few hours; but she doesn't do that anymore. I am STILL trying to adjust to that. I totally understand and I don't take it personally (at least I don't think I do), but I feel such a loss personally. It's not that we did anything terribly life-changing or creative or anything. We just hung out together. I liked having her here with me. Kaity was on her phone a lot of the time; but she was at least HERE. I could talk her into playing a few games of UNO with me, and we would eat a meal together. She had gotten too grown up to go to any playgrounds anymore--which we did so much of when she was younger; and I admit, I was quite at a loss to know what exactly to do with her when she was here. But she was HERE. I enjoyed the little conversations we would have. I liked being a small part of her life on a weekly basis! Sigh. Now and then, we would even share a hug. HUGS. How I miss them.

Not being willing to never see my Kaity, I intentionally drive over to Jesse's every Thursday afternoon (after school) to visit with both of them. This has a duo benefit, you see--because I get to chat with Jesse too. Actually, if truth be told (!!) I only see Kaity briefly on these weekly visit. She has a very nice bedroom that Jesse has fixed up for her, with a home-built super computer for gaming, and she is THIRTEEN. I bring her a Kit-Kat every week (it's her favorite candy bar) and give her a little hug, ask her how her week has been, and ... that's about it. Jesse, who never lacks for conversation (thankfully), talks with me for about an hour. Sometimes we catch up on football stats, sometimes listen to music videos, or check out one of his favorite podcasts. I am just super thankful that Jesse TALKS to me.

Anyway, Thursday Kaity asked if I could come back in the morning and fix her hair like it was for Jen's wedding (2.5 years ago), because it was homecoming weekend for Comstock Park. Evidently, everyone was going "green and gold" for the school day and there is a parade following classes tomorrow.

YES! YES! YES! I will certainly come over and help you do your hair, Kaity! Since Kaity's bus arrives at 6:40 am, I told Kaity I would arrive at about 6:20 am. She didn't want anything fancy--just twirled a little and partly tied back.

These first two photos are from Jen's wedding (who, by the way has just given birth to a baby girl!!) back in June 2023:

And this picture is from Friday morning! Kaity did her own face paint but asked me to letter the "C" and "P", so I did.
I was very glad to wake up at 5:45 am and drive over to assist my Kaity-Girl Friday morning. I will always be here for you, Kaity.

PS: Kaity went to the high school football game Friday evening. Comstock Park lost by 10 points. This, however, did not trouble Kaity one single bit. She told me she wasn't there for the game!! She was just there for her friends.
