October 25 Olivet vs Alma

Saturday:  Emma and I drove to Chris's game this morning, arriving in plenty of time to see the kick-off. It wasn't nearly as cold as we had planned for--we were layered up like mummies; but we were able to get rid of a few layers, and then we were quite comfortable. It could not have been a prettier day, weather-wise. All sunshine. Zero wind!

Emma has very cool stadium "chairs" and since Kota wasn't coming to the game, I was able to use the one he usually sits on. They are amazingly comfortable and give good support. Stadium seating can be a real pain. Anyway, Ella was already seated so we joined her. Diana arrived shortly thereafter.

Olivet actually scored FIRST ... which might have been a first for them for the entire season. I don't know if it is the coach or perhaps because he is playing practically all freshman students ... but Olivet is not having a good season. That's putting it very kindly actually.

The final score wasn't as bad as the other game I saw two weeks ago! Olivet actually scored 14 against their 53 points. But ... somehow it felt more respectable this time around. I also didn't notice the coach cussing the players out this time. Maybe he got called out for it. I certainly hope so! He was completely outrageous at the prior game.

I took a few pictures of the Comets coming onto the field prior to the first quarter:

The rest of these pictures I snapped after the game was over. I didn't even use my camera--I left it in the car, and just used my phone. Actually, I can barely tell the difference when I am just taking a few quick shots.

The last few years, I have almost ZERO pictures of Emma (which is so sad to me!); so I try to sneak in a few whenever I am with her. I hope it isn't obnoxious.

We were waiting to greet Chris after the game, but we weren't in our usual spot; so it was difficult for Chris to find us! We finally all got together for a few minutes and I was able to take a few more pictures.

I think these might have been "happier" pictures if the score was a winning one. It actually looks like he would like to bite my head off! Yikes. I truly feel badly for Chris with this football season. He has had injuries all year, preventing him from playing as much as he had hoped.
This fellow with Chris (I forget his name) actually played football with Chris at Comstock--he is two years ahead of Chris--he also played for Olivet ... two years ago? He looks like a nice person, doesn't he?

Untaping his wrists takes awhile ... it looks like it hurts.
Ella and Chris.
Chris and Ella.
These two. I surely wish them all the best; but more than that, I pray that the Lord will grow their love for Him (first of all) and then for each other. Life is hard. Engagement is hard! Marriage is hard! Ah, but we have a strong God who longs for our dependence to be on Him. He will not fail us, not ever. Remember that, you two!
Next week's game is at Calvin University right here in Grand Rapids. Dylan has asked specifics about the game and expressed that he would like to bring the kids to the game, since they like football. I hope they do come and that we can just enjoy the game together!

Emma invited me to come in and visit for awhile once we got to her house. Thank you, Emma. It sure was nice to be with you today!
