Friday Evening: We drove from Point Iroquois Lighthouse to Sault Ste. Marie in less than an hour. I wanted to purchase our "Soo Locks Boat Tour" tickets before the ticket office closed, so that was our first stop. We walked around the very nice gift shop that was still open, purchased our tickets ($30/each) for the boat tour for Saturday morning, and then checked in to our hotel: The Kewadin Hotel/Casino. I didn't even take a single picture of this place--I can't even tell you why. Probably because it was SO HUGE ... and I'm not a big fan of casinos.
We got rooms in the 5th floor with a lovely view of the roof below. Jeeps.
We did eat a very nice dinner at the hotel and then went in search of a place called "Soo Locks Park" which boasted "ships, ships, ships!" on the internet. We drove around only to find that particular park was no longer in existence--but then asked ourselves HOW difficult could it be to find another such park? After all, we were driving right along the St. Mary's River in Sault Ste. Marie where the BIG ships hung out anticipating the locks, etc. Oh my. We drove and turned around several times and finally settled for a little patch of grass on the river sandwiched between gravel pits and factories. I obviously did NOT take many pictures of the place. And for the record, not a single BIG SHIP passed by while we were there.
We only stayed here for about an hour because there was absolutely NOTHING to see, NOTHING to photograph, NO BIG SHIPS, no marinas, no quaint-looking cottages, piers, NOTHING. Yikes.
