September 13 More funeral pics

I had to "chop" Shelley out of the picture with Terry and Ruthanne (below)--it wasn't a good picture of Shelley!! She is a darling girl!

I walked around snapping random pictures of everyone. These are my cousins: Wayne, Mary, and Annie.
Wednesday:  After the "formal" family pictures were taken, we just walked around and visited among ourselves for the next little while. My cousin, Bruce, is a noted musician. He plays guitar, mandolin, ukulele, fiddle ... and I don't know what else. He plays a lot of blue grass and travels with a group and entertains folks all over the place.

To begin our time of sharing our thoughts about Aunt Jan, Bruce was going to sing a tribute song to her. However, everything went wrong and it was nearly a tragedy. Seriously. What happened was this:  Bruce got up and began singing (he was positioned in front of all of the tables) and was singing--but suddenly, one of the pastors of the church (who was heading up the microphone pass-around for people to talk about Aunt Jan) interrupted Bruce (rather abruptly) and almost made a joke about him singing in the background when others would want to talk. This was NOT good. The pastor had no idea who Bruce was! Sadly, Bruce walked out without finishing his song and our hearts sank. Long story short--a few of his closer cousins went out and spoke with him, and he did come back ... I'll show you those pictures in just a minute.
This is a sad part of our time together. Everyone was finished eating and it was time for family to give tributes to Aunt Jan, via a microphone that was going to be passed around. My cousin, Bruce, is a song-writer and an accomplished musician. He started us off (we were hoping) with a song tribute to my Aunt Jan. However, the pastor who was in charge of this part of the event misunderstood what Bruce was doing (since he had no microphone?) and interrupted Bruce with kind of a "joke" about background music when others would be talking. Anyway--it was kind of a disaster. Bruce walked out with deep hurt and I wasn't sure he would ever come back. Thankfully, his cousins (who are close to him) found him and talked to him and he did return. The pictures of him and all of us singing together are at the end of this post--such a JOYOUS and FUN time we had!

This is David chatting with Suzi and Sharon ...
My cousins: Wayne, Mary and Annie ...

I think the "happiest" part of the day, for many of us, was when Bruce finally did get to sing for us. All of us gathered around and listened and sang and laughed ... it was wonderful.
