September 13 Schwallier's Country Basket

Saturday: I awoke to the sound of rain this morning and was so sad! Usually, I love the sound of raindrops falling on my roof and windows--but how could we possibly go to Schwallier's and do the corn maze and the "Back 40" if it was raining?!?

Thankfully, by mid-morning the rain had ended, the sun came out, and the rain/water dried up very quickly! So ... that was very good news for us!

We drove over to Schwallier's and got there before 11am. I had cooked a good breakfast of eggs and sausage and toast for Brendan before we left my house, so we were not a bit hungry while we were at Schwallier's.

Here is a map to the corn maze in what they call the "Back 40", which is at the back of the orchard; 5.5 acres of corn fields, etc!

I asked Brendan to take this picture while we were riding on the wagon that took us out to the "Back 40."

Here we are in the maze. Good thing Brendan was with me, or I never ever would have found my way out. Brendan is excellent with maps!
I love it out here! No noisy cars. No traffic! Peace and complete quiet. Mmmm. Give me some land on the New Earth, please Lord? I'll farm it for You!
Dear Brendan leading me under the bridged to the exit of the corn maze.
We paid $14/ea for a band to wear that allowed us to do everything we wanted to do in the "Back 40." It's a pretty nice place! Look at this huge slide!

Old ladies are not permitted to slide down ...
Brendan used this slide 2x and said it was fun.
Here we are at the apple shooting place. These "guns" are air powered and really shoot the apples quite a distance! We bought a $10 bucket that contained a dozen apples--these were apples that were older in appearance--not ones that would be good for eating.
Look how natural Brendan looks operating this "machine"!

I could NOT believe how far the apples could go! Most of Brendan's went WAY BEYOND the targets.

The only disappointing "activity" back here was the go-carts. Look at them!!!!! They are human pedaled. I tried one for about two minutes, made zero progress, and got off! Brendan did much better than I did. However, you notice there are not huge crowds waiting in line to try this ...

I challenged Brendan to be "king of the castle" on this hay bale structure ...

... so he climbed up, and up, and up ...
... and UP ...
And there he is!
There was a jumping place--but honestly, after you have jumped on a trampoline (not that I HAVE) these really don't have very much bounce to them.
But Brendan ran up and down a few times on them ...
There were these tube slides too ... surprisingly it was not very crowded here this morning--possibly the rain earlier in the day put people off from coming.

Beautiful place! Very thankful I could do this with Brendan today. How blessed I am as a grandma!
