November 5 Pelizzari Natural Area

Saturday morning:  Margaret knows that I love to walk in the woods, so she told me that there were several good places to hike not far from her condo. One of them is the Pelizzari Natural Area, which is a protected woodsy spot with many hiking trails--only 1/4 mile walk from her place. Eva and I decided to walk it--there was rain predicted 45 minutes from the time we left; so we knew we had to take advantage of the "dry" skies while we could.

We walked the quarter mile to the entrance of the "natural area", crossed this pretty field, and entered the woods. Look at this cool stump (below)! And aren't the colors gorgeous?

Eva pointed out that the floor of the woods was just as pretty as the trees themselves--yes! A colorful carpet of leaves!

We found this place just stunning. I would have loved to have spent more time here. There are three different "loops" to walk, each one further than the last. Eva and I decided we would walk 20 minutes and then turn around and walk back, so as not to get caught in a downpour.

Tamela phoned to tell us that she, Lirien, and Cindy were driving over and would meet us somewhere in the woods. Cindy is still recovering from quite a serious surgery, so she is a slower walker. Eva and I figured that by the time we turned around and headed back, we would meet up with them.

However, we actually walked far enough to stumble upon the second "loop" and just wound our way back to the entrance of the park. We did meet up with Tamela, though, because they took the first "loop" back.

It was just about HERE that the rain began--just a light drizzle; but by the time we walked back into Margaret's condo (!!) it began to seriously rain. Good timing!
