Thursday: Since Kaity has resumed her Gold Fish swimming lessons every Thursday, our few hours together zooms by really quickly. I pick her up from Jesse at about 3:40 and we drive over to my place. We've been enjoying various card games--some new, some old--I've been really pleased at how much Kaity enjoys them, even when she doesn't always win.
We ate our yummy all-beef hot dogs, chips, and other junk ...Look how tall Kaity has gotten. She is sitting on the counter top in my kitchen. She used to look SO little up there--but now--she barely fits! Doesn't she look pretty in pink?
The drive out to Gold Fish is about 30 minutes. Because of COVID, you cannot enter the building earlier than 5 minutes before your lesson AND the student has to be already in their swim gear because the changing rooms are not open prior to your lesson--only afterwards, so that you can put your warm, dry, street clothes back on. Kaity is waiting on a circle marked with a #5 because that is the pool lane she is designated for her lesson. Kaity is one of four students in Lane 5, with plexiglass between them as they sit on the edge.
Kaity has graduated to Glider 2 level. This class works on proper kicking, reaching with their arms, swimming on their back--and there is no longer a middle of the lane platform--they now swim the entire length of the pool. I'm impressed at Kaity's listening skills and her careful attention to following through with what the instructor is saying. She's doing really well on her reaching too. She says the pool water is super warm--like a bathtub!Kaity is also super proud that she no longer has to "plug" her nose when she goes under water. We had practiced this a few times this summer at the little lake we often frequented, but she was very tentative about it. NOW--she says her nose just closes up all by itself! Exactly!
After Kaity's lesson, we drove back to her mom's house--about a 25 minute drive. I had brought our "Sleeping Queens" game with me and we played THREE games on Kaity's bed and enjoyed our time together very much. I'm really thankful to be this dear girl's grandma.
