February 13 Muskegon Ice

Sunday:  There is nothing quite like going to Lake Michigan in the winter. I'm terrible at describing the beauty found there, and these pictures don't really do it justice. The lighting was tricky yesterday, possibly because we didn't arrive until after 4:15 or so. I've altered most of these photos to lighten them up a bit ...

Emma and I used to have regular weekend "adventures" when she was younger. I have missed our adventures very much! It was SO nice to have one this weekend.

We walked 1.7 miles on the icy beach and boardwalks ... it was so much fun.

Isn't it SO beautiful?
The little circle of ice ... those are called "pancake ice" and even made National news last week because of the unusual phenomenon! I've never photographed pancake ice before ...

We didn't make it all the way down to the end of the breakwater ... the pathway was just too encumbered by ice mountains. We went as far as we dared though.

We found this small ice cave and each had to try it out ...

At least it wasn't windy! It was about 17 degrees outside. The air was so crisp and clean and wonderful!

I took about 150 photos ... these are the best of them!
