Friday Night/Saturday: Cal turned five about a month ago now and I've been promising him a sleepover ever since. Tonight was the night!
We didn't get home here from Deer Tracks Junction until nearly 7:30 and we hadn't had anything (other than a few snacks) to eat ... so dinner was quite late. Thankfully, I had taco meat made ahead so all we had to do was microwave it, add a little bit of cheese and put it into a soft shell and enjoy it. Cal is a very good eater. He's been asking me to make him tacos for a few weeks now. I told him we would save it for his sleepover, so I made good on my promise.
Once dinner was behind us, Cal wanted to play; so I gave him a choice of either watching a movie with popcorn before bedtime, or we could play tonight and watch a movie in the morning. He was looking pretty sleepy already (he generally goes to bed at 7:30 at his house), so he chose to watch a movie. He wanted to see "The Secret Life of Pets 2" just like Aidan did last week! So we got out all of the stuffed characters from the movie: Max, Norman, Gidget, Chloe, Duke, Snow Ball and the others to sit on the big comfy chair with Cal. I got the popcorn ready and some apple juice for our little man and we watched the entire movie together. He was VERY ready for sleeping afterwards. I tucked him in the bottom bunk (and forgot to take pictures!!!!) and he was asleep within 10 minutes. I was very grateful for this because I was also quite tired!
Cal slept until 8:15 the next morning--thank you, Lord! He rolled out of bed going 100 mph and wanted to play with my little magnet fish, so we did. Here are some pictures:
I had gotten up at 6:30 thinking Cal would be awake that early. I got a lot of things done around here while he slept including refilling the bird feeders and cleaning up the side yard. Cal loves to sit on my window seat and watch the birds--they are very entertaining! I have a bird identification book that Cal uses to look up the birds that visit us. During May and June, my yard is dominated by quite large Starlings and their "young" who are nearly as large as their parent yet still demand to be fed by them! It's really quite humorous to watch--but they nearly eat me out of house and home! The smaller (and prettier) birds don't frequent as often when there is a "crowd" of Starlings in the yard.
We also have four squirrels who frequent the yard and try their best to get into the feeders--but that's another story completely. We do enjoy watching the squirrels chase each other and play though.
Cal is very enthusiastic about my small foosball table. Since he is five, he is now allowed to play. He is super pleased about this and has handled himself very respectfully when he plays. In his younger days, none of the foosball rules made any difference whatsoever to him--especially the part where we do NOT throw the little balls around the room (they are not light balls like ping pong balls, but are quite heavy for their size).
Cal does not like to lose on this game. Truthfully, I am not a very skilled player, so it all works out. Sometimes I win, sometimes Cal wins.
Our very first sleepover went amazingly well. We laughed a LOT. We played continuously. We just had a very nice time together! Since Cal was wanting more tacos, we ate an early lunch and returned him back to his house by about noon.
