Friday: It's been a very long time since I've had Aidan overnight at my place, and tonight it was his turn! We drove over to Meijer so that I could make sure I had the right things he would eat. We picked up some cute mini pita bread, some hummus, bacon, a package of powdered sugar donuts, and a carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream. We were all set! I already had cantaloupe, water melon, cucumbers, bananas, chocolate milk, root beer, tons of crackers and chips--so everything was good as far as food was concerned.
We did a lot of building with my toys as you can see in these pictures:
Aidan is a super good builder. He builds independently, but he does enjoy companionship too. But here's the deal: IF he has invited you to be a co-builder, he already has a plan for you to do; so he will introduce it like this: "Why don't you build your track out here, and then we can join the tracks later?" So I begin building, but as he watches what I'm doing, he will give further directions ... he has a clear picture of what he wants the final track to look like. It ends up that I am not really building but just following directions--which is okay, don't misinterpret me ...I did suggest that we could combine some of our magna-tiles with the track and build colorful tunnels and bridges. Aidan went for that idea; but again, it was under his direction. He has a very commanding personality--it's not that he is mean about it or anything; he just knows what he wants and hopes you will go along with it. I did--because why not?
We also built with LEGOs, which is always fun to do. I don't have nearly as many LEGOs as these kids have at their house; but I have enough to where we built with them for a solid 30 minutes.
We also got out the Magna-Cubes and added them to our creations as well. Aidan built this T-Rex from a picture I had saved from the box the cubes came in.
We played for awhile in the playroom. We did one game of foosball, and then we built stuff using multiple blocks, plastic cups, cardboard tubes, etc. It was fun.
I asked Aidan which movie he wanted to watch and he requested "The Secret Life of Pets 2" which we watched while eating a lot of buttery popcorn. We were ready for bed by about 9:30 and Aidan was soundly sleeping at 10:00. Everything went very smoothly for bedtime. Aidan had brought several books from home that he took to the top bunk with him, along with two of his favorite stuffies.
Aidan was awake by about 6:30 Saturday morning, which was just fine. I was notified by Dylan that Aidan needed to be back to their house by 11am because they had an invitation from friends in Muskegon to go for a visit.
I made Aidan a breakfast of bacon and waffles (EGGO), as well as some fruit. He ate really well. We did some art, played a game of Chess (which was kind of a "draw"), got out the Big Box game (with marbles) that Aidan likes so much, put puzzles together, and topped it off with a root beer float just for the fun of it.
I am thankful Aidan's sleepover went so well. I am asking the Lord to help me continue to do this with these little ones while they still want to come over! They are growing up so fast now. Sometimes I just feel too old to keep up with them; but that is a lame excuse and I'm not going to tolerate it in myself any longer, Lord willing.
