January 22 First soccer game

Saturday morning:  Kaity is on an intramural soccer team. She practices each Monday afternoon over at the high school gymnasium, but then her games are for the next five (or is it six?) consecutive Saturday mornings over at Stoney Creek Elementary. Her games are scheduled from 10-11am.

Emma and I arrived at Stoney Creek with only five minutes to spare ... just in time! We chatted a few minutes with Megan and Scott ... but where is KAITY we asked ???

Here is the story as I understand it. Kaity was rather  S  L  O  W  to get up this morning (she is NOT a morning person) and at the very last minute, as she was about to jump into the car, she remembered her soccer pads were at her mom's house (the opposite direction from Stoney Creek). So Jesse and Kaity drove over to Diana's to get Kaity's soccer pads and arrived for her 10:00 game at about ... 10:20. Kaity missed all of the pre-game warm-ups and pep talk from her coach. The game was fully underway when Kaity arrived looking rather ... exhausted ... and a little more than out of it.

Kaity's coach put her in the game after a few minutes ... it took her a little while to acclimate herself to the game--let me explain--normally Kaity is quite athletic--she is super happy when she is running, climbing, jumping ... but she clearly was not doing that this morning.

Kaity finally began to get into the game ... but not like she usually does.

Kaity is quick on her toes and is usually very alert. After the game, she explained to Emma and I and Jesse that she had a cramp in her upper groin area. She said every time she tried to run, it would catch and hurt--so she didn't want to run.
Well ... that makes sense, Kaity! Hopefully, next week she will make it on time to do her pre-game warm-up stretches to get ready for her game. It was good to be there with you today, Kaity!

Emma and I were surprised to see one of our three-year-old Sunday kids across the gym on the sidelines. It turns out that Isabel's brother, Caleb, is in the third grade over at Pine Island (just like Kaity), but not in Kaity's class. It was nice to chat with Isabel and her mom for a little bit during the game.

The game was over and we were out of the school by 11:00. Emma and I returned home to get some warmer clothes in and get ready to take a long walk in the winter woods ...
