September 1 Grand Haven

Sunday:  We worshiped at Calvary Church this morning--it was so nice to have David and Carol with us. We followed church with lunch at our favorite eatery and then came home, changed our clothing, and headed out to Grand Haven for the rest of the day.

Our original plan was to arrive at about 3:00 and stay the whole entire afternoon and evening right up to sunset; however, it was VERY windy upon our arrival, and only 71 degrees. Sitting on benches on the channel watching boats had to be scratched because (1) it was so windy and the waves were so high, there weren't many boats going anywhere whatsoever! (1) it was too cold. All of this was terribly unfortunate because we had really been counting on it and didn't really have a Plan B.

David and I took a walk along the channel and onto the pier, but we could only get passed the inner light because the waves were pushing water up onto the pier and soaking people. It was too cold to endure a soaking, so we turned around and came back to the bench where Terry, Ruthanne and Carol were waiting for us.

Thankfully, stores downtown were open until 8pm; so we did do a little bit of browsing around, which was fun but not nearly the same as sitting on the pier watching boats--just saying!

David made us a spaghetti dinner Sunday evening and we played games over at Terry and Ruthanne's. All of us were a bit tired from our northern travels, so we retired early.

Monday:  Today, David and Carol return to Florida. We have to have them to the airport by 5pm today. It is still COLD, which is a hindrance to any of the outdoor stuff we had planned to do. We did drive over to Meijer to try to find David some U of M shirts on sale--the selection was quite small; but David did get a few shirts. We ate lunch at Applebee's and then had dessert over at Ruthanne's. I don't even want to get on a scale for the next few days--I'm sure I've gained a few pounds with all of this eating.

It was sad to see David and Carol go back to Florida. We don't get to see them very often. They are super nice to be with, low maintenance, and a lot of fun. I sure wish we lived closer to each other!
