A wonderful few hours ...

Tuesday morning began with what looked to be an all day rain, brisk winds, and chilly temperatures. But none of that stopped my brother, David, and I from driving out to Grand Haven anyway! We had watched the weather radar and were able to see that the rain was on its way out of our area ...
By the time we arrived out at Grand Haven, the rain had totally ceased. It was still really windy, and a lot colder than I like (!), but we walked the pier and then David flew his stunt kite for a little while.

David got quite a work-out with the strong winds … it was fun to see him maneuver his beautiful kite! I took about 150 photos of him doing stunts with it, but hardly any of them turned out because of distance, visibility, and my lack of ability to photograph motion ...
Lake Michigan was at it's finest. The waves were rolling in so beautifully!

See how David's whole body gets in on the action of flying this kite? He has a lot of fun with it. It folds right up into a little packing case that he can strap to his belt … so he takes it with him wherever he travels!
The colors of the day were gorgeous, as always ...

We ate a small lunch over at Snug Harbor on the boardwalk.
And then we drove to the other side of the channel, the Ferrysburg side, along the North Shore, and walked the pier ...
We sat out on the end of the pier for a very relaxing hour or so, watching the charter boats coming in and out ...
No other pleasure craft were to be seen! The waves were just too challenging. Even these fishing boats had to continue heavy throttle for quite a distance into the channel. The ones who "killed" their engines too early got caught in the current and waves and lost control!
And look at the outer light! It's being restored this summer … getting painted and repaired, just like the inner light was worked on last summer.
The North Shore ...
The lake levels have risen significantly this year … look at the beach erosion on the North Shore!
Last year my brother and I walked for a mile down the North Shore and we had 30 feet of beach before the water line … this year …. we didn't even attempt to walk on this private bit of land. But we truly did enjoy our time out here, letting all the stress of life just wash away!
