Grandpa's birthday!

It was Grandpa Jones's birthday today ... so we celebrated it very simply here at home. It was really special to share this day with two of our little grandchildren too. I can't remember the last time either one of us had a birthday and got to be with any of our grandchildren.
Grandpa's birthday cake was kind of pathetic looking. Sabrina and I had shopped for it earlier in the day and neglected to put it in the refrigerator when we returned home ... so it kind of looked ... droopy! It wasn't an ice cream cake or anything (thankfully), but the buttercream frosting kind of melted in our intensely HOT house. Grandpa Jones didn't seem to notice one single bit! We cut him a very huge piece of cake, a nice fat corner piece with lots and lots of frosting, and topped it off with french vanilla ice cream. Yum.
This is the picture I used for making his birthday card this year. Grandpa Jones is kind of partial (!) to railroads and trains, so I looked back in my files and remembered that last August we visited Coshocton (his home town) and I took lots of track and train pictures to use for a card!
Since it was a hot humid sunny day, we played in the backyard with lots of water toys.

We opened up the hot tub, turned down the temperature, and floated boats and had squirt gun fights, and passed the afternoon away ...

After dinner we got out some art materials, gathered around the table and colored and did stencil pictures for a little while ...
Grandpa drew us a nice picture with a sail boat! See the book I bought him for his birthday? The newest novel by Daniel Silva!
Sabrina and the little kids have to be at the airport tomorrow morning at 4:30 ... so we are ALL going to bed early tonight so that we can get up way before the sun does! And then I know at least TWO grandparents who are going to take an extremely LONG nap ...
