Undignified things ...

You can't imagine how LONG it's been that I've wanted to play in the leaves with my grandchildren. It used to be a regular autumn activity around here!

It's been kind of rainy and wet around our neighborhood the last week or so. I was concerned we wouldn't find a nice day to play outside before Nathan, Nia and Lottie had to return to Texas. But yesterday was PERFECT ... except for the usual Michigan November chill ... but I really wasn't complaining! We got out our rakes, big and small, and raked a nice pile so that we could ...
... chase each other around the yard and have a leaf fight!
Nathan ran across the entire backyard to attack Grandpa Jones, who was innocently raking his area of the yard ...
And Rachel and Nia raked together for awhile ... the rake was a bit tricky for Nia, but she has only just turned two!
Lottie happily watched from the stroller ... the ground was too wet to put her down ...
Nathan was very enthusiastic about jumping in the leaves, throwing them in the air, chasing all of us with huge fists full of leaves ...
And this beautiful baby examined a leaf of her own ...
Nia and Nathan were not a bit bothered by the chill in the air ...
This is Nia trying to throw our parachute guy in the air ... you can pick up one of these cool and very sturdy parachute guys at Michaels for only $2.00!
"Grandchildren are the best
excuse I know to do
all of the undignified things
that are so much fun."
Marion Garretty

And then it was time for wheel barrow rides ... back and forth ... all across our backyard! Nathan called it his "boat" and told me we were "out in the deep blue sea." Yes!

I remember ... was it really three autumns ago that Emma and Christopher took rides TOGETHER in this very wheelbarrow?
Happy Lottie watched us with her sweet smiles ... she is the sweetest little baby I have ever met! She was totally entertained by our antics.
I asked Nia if she wanted to "ride in the boat" ... but I could NOT persuade her to be so adventuresome.
When Lottie went inside because of the cold, Nia did climb into the stroller and we took turns driving around the yard, inbetween steering Nathan's "boat" for him. I asked Nia if her Baby Boo wanted to take a ride in the boat or the stroller, but Nia said, "No, he does not want a ride!" End of story.
