Emporia to Chaska, Minnesota

We drove on the scenic route (i.e. passed the rail yard) leaving Emporia early this morning where we HAD to photograph this beautiful caboose. Driving out of town, we passed Carlos O'Kelly's Mexican Cafe' ... somehow Carlos O'Kelly seems an unlikely name for a mexican restaurant ... but Emporia was that kind of place! Traveling on I-35 was a pretty drive this morning. We went by shaded hollows, crooked shimmering creeks (with names like "Pole Cat Creek" and "Big Creek"), and the low sprawling hills of northeast Kansas farmland.
We crossed the Missouri River (into Missouri) at about 10:30 and saw more of the same kind of scenery all throughout the day ...
I thought the name of this casino was pretty funny: Terrible's Casino. I've never visited a casino, but this one has a particularly uninviting name.
It was a perfect day to watch hawks in flight. They were everywhere ... gliding and sailing over the landscape, swooping down on straw-colored high grass bending in the April wind ...
Beautiful farm country ... we had a great day of travel finally arriving at Adam and Emily's at about 7:30. We've been relaxing with them this evening. I'm not sure of our plans for tomorrow. We're just glad to be here and NOT on the road.
