May 10 Thumbs up for these little artists

Tuesday:  I highly recommend Ed Emberley's "Great Thumbprint Drawing Book" (plus any other art books Mr. Emberley has out there). We got out my ink pads, colored pencils, markers, paper and the kids sat at this table for nearly TWO hours having such a great time!

Aidan is a very serious little artist! He does a good job of reproducing what he sees in front of him--which is what he is doing here with the little guy sitting on the horse--he copied it out of the thumbprint book--but it is impressive because of his details. I should have taken a picture of the finished caterpillar (the three orange thumbprings underneath his horse picture)--because THIS three-humped caterpillar ended up having very fancy hats on all of his bumps and then as a last thought Aidan drew a tail on the caterpillar and drew a hat on the tail as well.

Brendan is LESS a copier than a person who creates all on his own ... he got so much pleasure out of doing this little book--which is shaped like a teardop but when you open the pages, you find it is actually a heart-shaped book!

I MUST give the details on the picture below: Brendan placed an orange thumprint and made a very very NICE turkey out of him. It happened to be raining thumbprints, so Mr. Turkey had to put up his umbrella. I absolutely LOVE this picture ... but more than that, I love the little person whose smiling face is showing behind his picture.
THIS little sweetheart was more interested in just ... inking everything in sight. Thankfully, she listened very well to instructions and only thumbprinted on paper ... that is, if you don't count her nose, chin, arms, etc.

Look how INTENSE Aidan is! I just love this little guy ...

Aidan, struggling to get the ink pad lid opened (below) ...
Another one of Brendan's great drawings. I cannot remember what exactly what going on with the orange thumbprints ... I think it has something to do with a storm and his turkey ... but look at the great thumbprint PIG Brendan made holding an umbrella. GAH! This is THE BEST.
Do you want to know something? I am journaling this 24 hours later and I am still WARM inside and supremely happy from just remembering the fun we had yesterday.
Aidan's singing reindeer ... yes ... it is singing: "Doe a deer, a female deer!" and Aidan is cracking up.
I am completely NOT sure what the brown thumbprints are doing on the page behind the reindeer and why exactly the musical notes are on top of a "palm" print ... but that's OK!.
