January 5

Matey joined Emma and I for breakfast again this morning. He is getting quite bold. If we're not careful, he hops right into our bowls or onto our dishes while we are eating. He's really quite a funny little bird, and we love him.
Emma gave him a strawberry to try and he took several nibbles, which he seemed to enjoy.

Worship at Calvary was absolutely amazing this morning. It just keeps getting better and better. There is something about the music and the JOY, the testimonies and the teaching that has been so comforting and wonderful in these last months. Pastor continued teaching from Titus. We were in chapter 2, early in the chapter where it mentions teaching "sound doctrine." So for the next 9 weeks, we are going to be studying the essential doctrines of the Christian faith. This morning, we studied CREATION. It was such a wonderful learning experience. I'm going to need to listen again to the teaching because there was a lot to take in. We closed with the song, "So Will I" ... Here are the lyrics:

So Will I (100 Billion X)
God of creation
There at the start
Before the beginning of time
With no point of reference
You spoke to the dark
And fleshed out the wonder of light
And as You speak
A hundred billion galaxies are born
In the vapour of Your breath the planets form
If the stars were made to worship so will I
I can see Your heart in everything You've made
Every burning star
A signal fire of grace
If creation sings Your praises so will I
God of Your promise
You don't speak in vain
No syllable empty or void
For once You have spoken
All nature and science
Follow the sound of Your voice
And as You speak
A hundred billion creatures catch Your breath
Evolving in pursuit of what You said
If it all reveals Your nature so will I
I can see Your heart in everything You say
Every painted sky
A canvas of Your grace
If creation still obeys You so will I
If the stars were made to worship so will I
If the mountains bow in reverence so will I
If the oceans roar Your greatness so will I
For if everything exists to lift You high so will I
If the wind goes where You send it so will I
If the rocks cry out in silence so will I
If the sum of all our praises still falls shy
Then we'll sing again a hundred billion times
God of salvation
You chased down my heart
Through all of my failure and pride
On a hill You created
The light of the world
Abandoned in darkness to die
And as You speak
A hundred billion failures disappear
Where You lost Your life so I could find it here
If You left the grave behind You so will I
I can see Your heart in everything You've done
Every part designed in a work of art called love
If You gladly chose surrender so will I
I can see Your heart
Eight billion different ways
Every precious one
A child You died to save
If You gave Your life to love them so will I
Like You would again a hundred billion times
But what measure could amount to Your desire
You're the One who never leaves the one behind

After church, Emma and I came home and ate lunch and then had our Bible Study. We learned about JONAH this week. I loved studying through the story all week. God was so good to speak through His Word to me as I studied. I love that He cares enough about us to teach us. Emma and I had a good time talking about lots of different things that related to Jonah's same struggle with bitterness and resentment, a lack of forgiveness for people who had wounded him. I'm still processing things that Emma shared with me ... please give her eyes of faith this week, Lord, to see herself and others as you do.

Above is a picture of the snowman Kaity made at her house on Friday. I was telling Emma about it and Emma said that Kaity had wanted her to go outside and see her handiwork, but that Emma hadn't done it yet. So when I took Emma home, we took a picture of it with our phones so that we could show Kaity that we admired her work of art.
Oh ... and according to my nephew-in-law (i.e. BOB), today is National Bird Day. He posted a picture of himself on Facebook with Max and Alex, so I took a selfie with dear Matey-Bird.
Happy National Bird Day to everyone out there ...
