"Magic" at Provin Trails Park

Thursday morning, October 18:  Our sleepover last night went very well! Brendan and I watched two episodes of one of his favorite programs on Amazon Prime (while eating buttery popcorn). We moved our little pot-belly stove into the front room, got out a warm cozy sleeping bag for Brendan, turned out the lights, watched our show(s), said our prayers, and then I tucked Paco the Pig in with Brendan. Paco was very hungry last night and kept biting Brendan's fingers. Paco said Brendan's fingers tasted like buttery popcorn (he was probably right), which cracked Brendan up. I slept on the couch and used a low-light to read a few chapters ... it wasn't long before we were both sleeping.

Brendan didn't wake up until 7:30 (me either!). We had some cereal, played more trains, ate some french toast, and then it was time for an outdoor adventure! I told Brendan we were going for a hike in the woods. He was VERY excited about this. We drove over to Provin Trails Park because it is such a nice place to take a walk.
 We found this home-made Teepee!

Brendan thought it was THE greatest! Have I mentioned to you lately how much I love this little person? He is the dearest boy. He talks endlessly and has the BEST stuff to say. His two front teeth are now missing and he has the most darling lisp. Brendan is a very tender person, gentle too. I love him so much.
As we walked along, we found ROOT steps! The trees are so abundant back in these woods, and their roots stretch out and out and form little stepping places on hills, just like they were formed to be walked down or up! What a beautiful autumn morning ... COLD, but beautiful.

The sun was out, that was GOOD.
Brendan was very happy out in the woods. We heard the ODDEST bird call, though. It sounded exactly like a PIG snorting (no kidding!) as it was flying away ... but we all know that pigs can't fly ...

We walked on a downwards path for a very long time which turned and suddenly we were at the base of an enormous sand dune! Out in the middle of the woods! How completely weird was that?
So, naturally, we walked up, up, up to the very top ...

You can find the coolest stuff out in the woods ... we found this little tree house ...

AND we found branch ladders! It was better than being at a playground!

Watch! If you were an astute climber, you could get pretty high on these branches!

[Good thing Kaity wasn't with us ... she would have scampered to the top like a squirrel]
The air was clean and crisp with the subtle colors of fall. I was hiking with one of my favorite little people ... it was ... magical.
Since Robinette's was about a quarter mile down the road, that's where we headed next!
