Brendan's Recitation

Monday morning, November 12:  At Trinitas, the children MUST give a recitation ... at least once during the year. It is a designated date(s) and there are "judges" who listen and choose the top two student recitations in each "class" to then recite their piece to the entire school (and families, others). I'm not sure how, but I think I missed Brendan's caterpillar recitation last year! But THIS YEAR, I was where I was supposed to be! The children were in their "dress" uniforms--check out the little boys with their khakis, suit jackets and ties. Oh.my.word.
Brendan is in a First/Second split--and even with that, I think there might be TEN students total. Each of them did such a great job on their piece! Some recited from JRR Tolkien, some did other poetry pieces, one small girl recited Psalm 23 ... with their darling-missing-tooth lisps and nervousness ... it was an event NOT to be missed under any circumstance! What precious little ones these are! I nearly died from the cuteness.
Brendan chose part of a speech by JFK. I googled it and hope that I have the exact words Brendan memorized. He had much emphasis and drama throughout ... he is SO precious.
"We choose to go to the Moon! We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too."             John F. Kennedy (9/12/62).

SO PROUD of you, dear grandson! How nervous you must have been! And your delivery was wonderful!

Two second graders were chosen to recite their pieces to the entire school. Watson (one of Brendan's first grade friends) declared before the entire thing began that he did NOT want to be chosen ... so there! Brendan's teacher explained that most often it is two second graders who are chosen, due to their extra year experience in the whole matter. Everyone received a much-deserved round of applause. All parents and grandparents were beaming with love for these dear children.
