The Saturday Gang ...

Saturday, June 21:  It was another one of those rainy weekend days ... so we were kind of stuck INSIDE once again. AND all FOUR of the kiddos came over, which is always a bit of a challenge in my small space. We did manage, however, to have a nice time together.
Emma was here with us too, but not pictured. She ate dinner with us and then spent some time in my room (away from the "maddening" crowd ...). She came back out for our Bible story time, though. The boys played some kind of racing game with the Matchbox and Hotwheels vehicles, and kept themselves busy that way for quite some time.
Kaity's request was to PAINT. So we painted together! We were going to be talking about David and Goliath for our story time today, so Kaitlynn painted a picture of the battle, and I painted one of the prophet Samuel anointing David to be king (boy as he was).
Look how carefully Kaity paints ...
Kaity! You are SO excellent with your paintings!
We also played MANY games of Memory. I got out my international children's cards and Kaity beat me 2 to 1 the first game. She actually got interested in the pictures of the children too and where they were from. The game box has all of the children's pictures and the countries of origin too. It was very fun to see Kaity interested in the different children's faces and clothing.
Chris and Matthew played too ... and their idea of playing was to continually MIX UP the cards after each play! I'm serious ... no wonder I lost so badly. I can barely make a match when the cards aren't being messed with! Matthew likes to have the cards symmetrically laid out at all times ... so he kept filling in the gaps and moving all of them around. Amazingly, he and Chris were still able to make matches. I lost all games (happily so). It was just nice to interact with these kiddos for a few hours.
I did enjoy teaching about the boy David being anointed the next king of Israel and some of the events that led up to his match with Goliath. The children are such good listeners too. We talked about how GOD looks at people's hearts and not their outward appearances and found that David was the youngest of EIGHT brothers, just a young shepherd-boy; yet God chose him over his older, taller and more handsome brothers. When asked, "What does God see when he looks at our hearts?" Matthew answered, "He sees our true self--because that's who we are!" Good answer, Matthew. Yes, indeed.
