A two-boy Monday!

Monday, April 1:  It's spring break this week here in Grand Rapids ... which means, ALL of the children are free from school. SO, Brendan got to come over today with Aidan!
These guys play a little bit better together now that Aidan is TWO. They seem to have reached an understanding about certain things. Aidan is far less disruptive of Brendan's designs and building projects--that's so much less frustrating for Brendan.
Aidan plays along quite nicely, without tearing everything apart ... he's not a baby any more (I say this sadly).
Aidan has definite ideas of his own!
Aidan likes to climb up on my bed and get all snuggled in with Hilly ...

He even pretends to take a nap!
Brendan told me that Mondays at Trinitas are ART DAYS. So ... we painted!
Aidan mostly painted with water. He was not very much into the art today. He did enjoy my piano briefly.

Since it IS spring here in Grand Rapids (although COLD), we ventured over to a playground for a little while. Brendan has always been very good at making this diggers work. He set about finishing up a hole that had been started ...
Little Aidan thought he could give it a try too ...
... but these diggers are super heavy ...
Aidan walked happily from one area to another ...
Brendan continued to dig ... no one can accuse this child of NOT persevering!
Aidan explored many little stairways ...
 Brendan continued to dig ...
 ... and dig ... and DIG ...
Aidan TRIED, but could NOT lift these handles ...
So he climbed many stairways, would get to the top, take a look at the slide, turn around, and climb back down ...
 Brendan continued to DIG ...
Finally! Brendan switched from digging to balancing on the bridge.
 Aidan continued to explore ...
... and to climb up and down stairs ...

Aidan never was able to lift one of these heavy handles ... but he was okay!
From the playground, we drove to Culver's and enjoyed our dinner there. I packed some cucumbers and fruit snacks for the boys to have along with their other food. Aidan has to eat gluten-free, and Culver's fries (dipped in mustard) are fine for him, but I wanted him to have more to eat than just fries. We spent an hour there, laughing and eating and enjoying each other--we even read a nice story about a steam engine! Good times!
