An unusual Sunday

Sunday, May 19:  Church was wonderful! Pastor Tom taught from Isaiah 46:1-4. He asked the question:

What does everyone WANT but is afraid of?
The answer was:  Growing old. His sermon was about God's care for the elderly and God's expectations for the young--to sow to please His Spirit so that we reap a healthy harvest (from Galations 6) ... because we reap what we sow. This was a wonderful sermon that contrasted the awesome God of the Bible with the pathetic gods we make for ourselves that cannot rescue us, help us, and only weigh us down. Our God "MADE us, carries us, provides for us, rescues us, sustains us!" even in our old age.

Since I couldn't keep my standard date with Kaity-Girl Saturday afternoon, I promised to spend some time with her after church on Sunday. I was hoping we could go to a playground, but ... rain forced us into PLAN B. Thankfully, Emma was on board to join us in whatever plan worked out!

What was PLAN B?  We picked Kaity up at about 2:30 over at her house and drove over to Woodland Mall where we hung out in various stores, looking at jewelry, and the toys over at Barnes & Nobel, all the while listening to Kaity add to her already too-long birthday gift list. Last week when I was with her over at the Children's Museum, Kaity pointed out at least a half dozen different toys that she HAD to have for her birthday ...

But actually, I was glad to find some really GOOD stuff over at Barnes & Nobles, and although I really don't like that I do this, comparing prices at Amazon turns out to be a significant savings! I will order Kaity's presents in another few weeks (since her birthday is still 5 weeks away).
We took ourselves to see "Penguins", a Disney production. It was an hour and 16 minutes, almost a perfect length of time for our Kaity's span of tolerance for sitting down in one place ... as it was, she didn't make it through the movie without getting in and out of her chair numerous times and exploring around our area; but no harm was done to Kaity or anyone else in the process, and she really did fine. We brought a bag of snacks from my house, and Kaity and Emma split a movie popcorn. I enjoyed the movie and learned a bunch of stuff about penguins! The story was about a particular KIND of penguin (NOT Emperor) but, of course, I can't remember what their name is! Anyway, they mate for life! Out of millions of penguins, they can actually find each other as they go back and forth to collect stones in order to build a nest that is dry and out of the snow. Plus, they return to the same place every single year to mate and raise their babies. I found that amazing. The world is a mighty huge place ... but these critters know their way around! They regurgitate the fish they catch and that's how the babies eat ... which we all found to be quite yucky. Glad I am not a penguin.
After the movie, we went to Wendy's to get a small bite to eat. Kaity ate 1.5 chicken nuggets, a few fries, and maybe 5 spoonfuls of her tiny Frosty ... but she was happy.
I'm glad we could do this, you two granddaughters! You are loved very much.
