February 18 with Kaity-Girl

Thursday:  Kaity came over today and we played for a few hours before her swim lesson. Matey entertained us a little bit by taking a brief shower in the sink ... he's so cute.

I returned to the library yesterday to choose more Resource material and found a good one full of word games to play with Kaity and her dolls. However, Kaity was a little "off" today ... she wasn't her usual happy self and seemed somewhat agitated and unsettled. I haven't seen her like this for quite a few weeks and wasn't fully prepared for it.
We went from activity to activity as quick as lightning ...
But I finally convinced Kaity that her dolls needed to just try to play ONE of the word games. The one we played was a matching of word groups ... endings of words like "i-g-h-t" or "i-n-k", etc. so there were cards with matching sound words, such as LIGHT, SIGHT OR SINK, BLINK and the goal was to get FOUR word ending matches before anyone else did.
Violet, Lily, Liam, Paco, Kaity and I all played the game. I tried to remember to clearly SAY each word--because Kaity was struggling to read them ... the dolls were super enthusiastic about learning to read these words--which helped Kaity get a little bit interested.

We finally switched games to "Go Fish" and Kaity won! We had fun playing this game too. Kaity is showing me that she can ROLL her tongue. She absolutely canNOT believe that I find this impossible to do!
We also played a game of "Sleeping Queens" before we ate our meal together.

For the first ten minutes of her swim lesson tonight, Kaity was the only student in Lane Four! She got a lot of swim time in. One other student showed up--but that was all. So ... Kaity didn't have to wait so long in between taking a turn.
She still wasn't "herself" tonight, even when swimming. She is usually pretty pumped about being in the pool--but she was very subdued tonight.

But Kaity still worked hard at her strokes and did a good job.
I am proud of you, Kaity! Keep up the good work!
