More fun on Saturday

Saturday, August 17:  Richmond Park has a very nice playground area, and the kids played there after we were finished swimming Saturday afternoon. Both of these kiddos love a good playground--Brendan is not afraid of heights at all, so he goes for the top!
Kaity, however, is not crazy about heights--but she is a monkey, for sure!

It was super fun to watch these two on this apparatus ... so different in their approaches and enjoyment ...

However, our playground time was saddened by what happened on this crazy piece of playground equipment. Brendan decided to try it out and had barely taken a step or two when ...
... he got flipped off the thing (the base of it rolls, you see) and it kind of folded him in half and ran over him ... see his foot sticking up in the air? You might think this was a bit humerous ... but it wasn't even a little bit. Brendan was winded, for sure, and frightened ... and HURT. He held his back and his stomach, and his chin was skinned up ... he was very brave, but he was pretty shook up. All of us were. It had happened so fast. Thankfully, no bones were broken, he wasn't bleeding ... but we were all finished on the playground, for sure. We sat with Brendan and comforted him as best we could. After a little while, he was able to walk to the car--we were all through with the playground for the day!
We asked Brendan where we should eat, and he never hesitated even for a moment: "McDonald's!" Kaity was super happy about that too!

Kaity set up a separate table for "the little kids" (Kaity and Brendan), and Emma and I ate at the table next to theirs. We were pretty tired from our day and we were glad to eat some food (although I must say, I certainly have had a LOT of Big Macs in the last week or two!) In my defense, I DO try to feed the kiddos at my house whenever possible, which is far healthier than fast food--but sometimes, we just have to do what is the most convenient for everyone. I feel like summer is ... over! Emma starts school Monday at KCTC, and then Kaity returns to school the following week. Brendan doesn't go back until after Labor Day.
